Monday 16 November 2009 Conference Dinner at Skíðaskálinn Restaurant
Visit to Reykjavik Water Works
Water reserves for the Reykjavík capital area are in Gvendarbrunnar, located on the outskirts of Reykjavík. Gvendarbrunnar is located within Heiðmörk, a conservation area. The water is of the highest quality; no treatment of any kind is required from when it is pumped from wells into the distribution pipes en route to consumers. A series of conservation measures has seen the supply of water in the distribution system decline over the past two decades, despite a considerable increase in the population of Reykjavík. Dinner at Skíðaskálinn Restaurant and Chalet
Finest modern cuisine, traditional decor and exhilirating surroundings - just outside Reykjavik. For more than half a century the Skíðaskálinn Restaurant and Chalet has been at the forefront of Icelandic dining culture. The atmosphere, with its traditional Icelandic and Scandinavian decor, evokes the ancient Sagas and rugged Vikings in a most memorable way. Though it is primarily known for its food and fine service, Skíðaskálinn is more than "just" a restaurant. An outdoor spa and a natural sauna steambath on the premesis, not to mention the surrounding hot springs and other marvels of Icelandic nature, give Skíðaskálinn a uniqueness that is unmatched in Iceland. Skíðaskálinn offers the finest in cuisine, while also paying homage to Icelandic culinary tradition.
Departure from Grand Hotel Reykjavik at 17:00 – return to Reykjavik at approx. 22:30. Included; guided visit to Reykjavik Water Works, aperitif and 3 course dinner at Skíðaskálinn Restaurant.
