“UX for Change”: A User-centric Way to Change Management for Socio-Economic Development

This workshop has its focus on the possibilities and effects of ICT that supports and fosters the creation of sustainable livelihoods in developing areas. ICT can be used to support, for instance, affordable information flows, education and even job creation. A number of social issues could be addressed in the process, including health and education, governance and resource creation, primarily by providing access to relevant information.

Digital services are spreading to all areas of human life - nowadays also in rural and developing areas. These services are beginning to have a huge impact on people's behaviour and they also have an effect at the cultural level. It can be argued that ICT is a powerful tool for making a change. Traditionally, however, ICT has been considered as something that creates lots of unwanted changes in an organisation. According to that viewpoint, there is a need to manage and diminish the negative effects with change management. Since we know that ICT is has many effects on its users, it may be developed and used deliberately in a positively influencing way. ICT can be used to facilitate desired changes and even change cultural traditions in the long run.
