We visit Reykholt, the home of the greatest medieval writer, poet, scholar and statesman, Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241). Our next stop is at Hraunfossar, which is a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 meters out of a lava filed from an eruption from underneath Langjökull glacier. We stop for lunch at The Settlement Centre in the village of Borgarnes and taste the famous Icelandic meatsoup followed by a visit to the Settlement Exhibition. This exhibition provides an insight into the settlement of Iceland. It tells how the land was discovered, how the Viking sailors conquered the open ocean and why they left their homelands in Norway.  Snæfellsjökull (glacier) National Park

Snæfellsjökull volcano tour and Volcano Museum experience This is a unique one-day tour of the Snæfellsnes peninsula of western Iceland, with expert guidance of Profesor Haraldur Sigurdsson of the University of Rhode Island.  He will meet the group at Vegamót on the south side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and guide you through the beautiful and interesting geologic landscape to Snæfellsjökull volcano.  We will traverse the volcano, driving over Jökulháls, right to the edge of the glacier. This glacier is currently thinning at an incredible rate of about 4 meters every year, due to global warming. After a stop on the volcano, we continue to the north side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, through dramatic scenery that is a mix of the volcanic and glacial history of Iceland. During a stop on Berserkjahraun lava field, we experience the magnificent sculptures that a basaltic lava has made, flowing over the land some 3800 years ago. We proceed to the picturesque village of Stykkishólmur, where we visit the Volcano Museum that has been set up here to house the collection of Profesor Sigurdsson.
This is a uniquie experience with and expert guide for all those interested in Nature, Glaciers and global effects in general.
Due to the melting of the glacier it´s no longer possible to go on the glacier but we will go near to it and see it form many sides.

Whale watching  - morning tour

hvalur.elding3_minniTake part in an adventure at sea with an unforgettable trip into the world of whales and sea birds. Conveniently located in Reykjavik’s old harbor, a three hour journey with Elding can bring you up close to whales in their natural habitat. The various types of whales commonly sighted include minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises and the popular humpback whales. We will be accompanied by sea birds such as gannets, puffins, guillemots, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, arctic terns, and many more. Our trips take us past several islands inhabited by colonies of puffin – a great photo opportunity! To make the trip even more comfortable, we provide our passengers with warm, floatable overalls and raincoats. For safety reasons, all children under 12 years of age are required to wear life jackets during the tour. To ensure that the animals are not disturbed by our presence, we sail at a constant speed towards the whales’ habitat. As a result, a variety of species, from humpback whales to tiny porpoises, often surface within a few feet of the boat!
